ZOAHARIAN.COM – Residents in a number of areas of Greater Bandung and surrounding areas were shocked by the mysterious booming sound that was heard repeatedly on Friday (4/9/2026) evening until Saturday (5/9/2026) early morning.

Not just a loud sound, a number of residents said the boom was accompanied by vibrations that were felt on the windows and doors of the house. This phenomenon immediately became a topic of conversation on social media because it appeared repeatedly for several hours.

Based on various reports from residents on social media, the sound began to be heard at around 23.30 WIB and was still reported until close to 02.00 WIB.

This sound was not only reported to be heard in the city of Bandung. Residents in the areas of Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, Cimahi, Sumedang, Subang, Purwakarta to Cianjur also claimed to have heard similar sounds.

The sound is like a giant blow

Residents' testimonies regarding the character of the sound are quite varied. Some describe it as a hard blow to a wall or large wall. There are also those who say the sound resembles a bass boom from a music stage very far away.

The slight vibration that was felt along with the sound made some residents panic. Some of them even chose to leave the house because they were worried that the phenomenon was related to the earthquake.

"It was starting to sound at 11pm. The windows of the house were shaking slightly but continuously," wrote a resident in the comments column of a local social media account.

Other residents suspected that the sound was related to certain activities.

"I thought there were soldiers training at night, because the sound was constant from midnight until morning," said another resident.

Netizens link it to the activities of the Krakatoa Children

The mystery became even more intense after a number of social media users linked the sound of the boom to the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.

This speculation arose because of reports regarding volcanic eruption activity on Saturday (5/9/2026). Some netizens then suspected that the sound heard in West Java was a pressure wave or sound from volcanic activity that spread very far.

However, this allegation cannot be considered as the cause of the explosion without the results of a study from an authorized institution.

BMKG data needs to be a reference

Available BMKG data shows that there was indeed a number of earthquake activities in Indonesia during that period, but the recorded earthquake felt on Friday night at 23.24 WIB was in Padang Sidempuan, North Sumatra, with a magnitude of 4.9 and a depth of 75 kilometers, not in Greater Bandung. 

Meanwhile, the BMKG real-time earthquake list in the early hours of September 5 also recorded activity in a number of areas of Indonesia, but did not show any large earthquakes in the Bandung area which could directly explain all residents' reports of explosions. 

BMKG also noted the potential for strong winds in West Java on 4 and 5 September 2026. Atmospheric conditions like this are one of the factors that need to be taken into account when exploring the phenomenon of sound that is heard widely, although it does not necessarily mean that it is the cause of the boom. 

The cause is still mysterious

With sound reports emerging in a number of areas, the cause of the boom still requires further verification. Possibilities that can be studied include local activity sources, atmospheric phenomena, certain sound propagation conditions, or other sources that are far from the location of the hearing residents.

Therefore, speculation regarding the “Children of Krakatoa shock wave” should not be considered a conclusion.

What is clear is that this mysterious boom succeeded in making the residents of Greater Bandung and a number of areas in West Java wonder: what sound was actually heard over and over again, causing the windows and doors of the house to vibrate?

Until the official cause is revealed, this phenomenon remains a puzzle awaiting scientific explanation
